Summer Business Institute

The purpose of the Summer Business Institute (SBI) is to provide early intervention in the multicultural students’ college careers in order to maximize their potential for academic and professional achievement.

SBI is an intensive, week-long residential learning experience that includes academic seminars by faculty, training workshops by corporate professionals, and team activities. Selected participants are given a $1500 SBI Grant to cover their lodging, food, activities and conference materials to be used for the SBI program only.

The Institute provides interactive instruction in the following areas.

  • Career development planning
  • Appreciation of diversity and individual differences
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Leadership development
  • Problem solving and decision making
  • Study management approaches
  • Time management

SBI participants are divided into project teams and are assigned to a participating corporation. Teams are responsible for developing a presentation focusing on an issue pertinent to their assigned corporation. Each team has the opportunity to meet with their corporation’s representative for informal coaching sessions as they prepare their team presentation.
